5,000 CIRCUS STARS!!!!!! You HAVE to read this book!!! Please. I’m begging you, fellow readers. This is not your typical story. This is not your typical book. This is a story that you have never read….trust me. It is anything BUT typical. The story begins with an arranged marriage. No, it’s not set in the medieval times. It’s a modern arranged marriage. Say what?! I know. It seems off-putting at first. But we quickly get to know Alex and Daisy, and the reason for the arranged marriage takes an app 5,000 CIRCUS STARS!!!!!! But we quickly get to know Alex and Daisy, and the reason for the arranged marriage takes an approved back seat for a while. This story is set at the circus. Yes, I said the circus. Weird?? Absolutely not. Mainly because SEP is a genius. Alex is a trained expert with bull whips. Yep, it’s gets dirty real fast, ladies. No, he doesn’t actually whip her (for those of you who are afraid of reads that are too dark, although I wouldn’t mind a little whipping, heeheehee), but the promise of whipping is there. The sexual chemistry and witty dialogue are off the charts. We can do this easy, or we can do it rough. Either way, I'm going to win. You decide how it'll be. My Alex: Alex. Alex. Alex. I would die for him. What a fantastic character. He was abused by the whip when he was a boy. He believes he is literally incapable of love. He is mysterious because he doesn’t reveal much about himself to Daisy. He purposefully tries to push her away because he doesn’t want her to fall in love with him. He doesn’t even want her to get comfortable, so he puts her through hell, expecting her to give up. I love LOVE/HATE relationships! They make the best sex!!!! My Daisy: But I don't love you, Daisy, and you can't begin to know how sorry I am about that because if I could choose anyone in this world to love, it'd be you. Even though Alex is trying to make Daisy give up, she won’t. She is stubborn and strong. Daisy is all heart. She might have a spoiled side, but when she loves, she loves with everything she’s got. She forms an attachment to the circus animals, and to say that the attachment is endearing would be an understatement. The way SEP writes these animals captivated me. Like the circus animals, she was held captive against her will, and, like them, her keeper had all the power. She was in a warm elephant cave. She pressed her cheek to his scratchy, gunnysack body just between his legs and heard the strong thud of his sweet, mischievous heart. She knew she should move, but even though she was resting beneath a ton of baby elephant, she had never felt safer. As she sat there, she thought of Alex and wished he were small enough to fit where she was, right beneath Tater's heart. SEP has a talent for writing a complete, no-page-unturned, no-character-left-behind story. She always includes a full story of the B characters, and I always love it. She gives everyone an HEA. Here are a couple of the B characters that I loved. Sheba is the circus owner. She is hard-headed, stubborn, prideful….a bitch. She cares for the circus and the people in the circus with everything she’s got…except for Daisy, which makes it interesting. I can’t help but love her. My Sheba: Heather is a teenage girl caught in the middle of growing up. She is trying to earn the love of her father by trying her best to be a good circus performer. She plays a key role in the story, and forms an attachment to Daisy. My Heather: Note to Susan: Dear Susan, Cheers. Cheers to this book. Cheers this story. Cheers these characters. Cheers to YOU. This book is officially in my top 3 favorites SEP books. This is a must-read. This is a re-read. Read it.

Do you know that feeling when you have just finished a book you adored but you just can't figure out how to express that on your review? Well that's exactly what happened to me but I'll do my best to try to explain it to you all. But it was so different this time. I couldn't put the book down, that's how FREAKING amazing it was for me. I loved this book so much. I even cried like a baby with it. My heart felt like it would break into a million pieces more than once, while some other times I felt like I would go crazy for feeling so happy about fictional characters, lol, but seriously I totally connected with them. In this book we get to meet Alex, our sexy Russian hero. He was so lost and suffering so much through life without even realizing it. He had been abused by his uncle as a child (by being knocked down and brutalized) and was sure he just wasn't able to love anyone or anything. It's not like he had not tried, he had, but he thought he could never get to love someone, that he was broken inside. It was so heartbreaking to see how he could not accept so many great things that started to happen to him but at the same time it was so emotional to see him accepting them at the end. He was the best part of the book IMHO. The rest of the characters were amazing as well. So be ready for a great ride with this book because you'll experience tons of emotions in just a couple of hundred of pages, lol. I just can't understand how this author keeps surprising me this way. I'm so obsessed with her right now! Its like every new book I read from her is even better than the last one. I never thought I would like Contemporary romance but I know I do now. Can't wait to read another book from this author, I just can't get enough.

OMG...I cant even...This love story just blew me away..... "I don't love you anymore,Alex." "It's alright sweetheart.I love you enough for the both of us." Honestly speaking, this book surprised me in more ways than one.I mean with its chic-lite cover, and the book's subtle summary.I had no clue, how emotional this book would really turn out to be. The characters in the book seemed so individually strong and memorable in their own right.I couldn't help but admire the way Ms.Phillips built a plot around such diverse characters instead of concentrating on just the two main leads. I found daisy and (the tiger) sinjun's relationship to be so the most touching. The way she relates to the beast calming & loving him while making way for her own self-discovery was just so complexly written.I adored it ! Pride had kept her running when love had betrayed her. Yes..It's true.THIS BOOK MADE ME CRY..LIKE A LOT... especially towards the end.The sad misunderstandings that Alex and Daisy go through...seriously,I was a mess. RECOMMENDATION :This book has permanently earned a place on my favorites shelf. I would highly recommended this book to anybody wanting a good emotional read if they have a LOT of spare time that day because trust me.You would want to finish this in one solid reading. Seriously a great book, completely deserves to be read, at least once.

4.25 Stars (Originally Read - 6/22/2018) 4.25 Stars (Re-Read -1/20/2020) Overall Opinion: Wow! This was so much better than I thought it'd be! I know I might be giving too much away here -- but I think keeping the circus aspect of this book a secret is a poor choice! I might've picked this up sooner if I had known what all we experienced with that! It's an older book, but it really didn't feel all that dated tbh -- maybe the clothing descriptions, but that's about it. I came across this again when 4.25 Stars (Originally Read - 6/22/2018) 4.25 Stars (Re-Read -1/20/2020) Overall Opinion: Wow! I came across this again when I asked GR friends and followers what their favorite re-read books are, and I can totally understand where this would come in! I think it's going on my favorites shelf and will probably be a re-read again farther down the line. Why not 5 Stars then, you ask? The sexual chemistry felt lacking. It wasn't fade-to-black or anything, but I felt like the scenes could've been better. I'm also a greedy, greedy girl and I like my epilogues! This one was alright. I didn't hate it or anything, but I definitely think it could've been a lot better! So with the epilogue/ending (.5 points) and the sexual chemistry (.25 points), I'm going with a 4.25 star rating. *Re-Read Update: I don't have much to add to my original review. I enjoyed this as a re-read but was still let down my the sexual chemistry and the ending. Otherwise, I still found it a great read! It'll probably be one that I re-read again down the line too, as it just is that fun 🤗 Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Daisy and Alex's story. Daisy finds herself forced to marry a man of her father's choosing or face jail time. Alex is a mysterious older man that is up for the job for at least the 6 months she is required to stay married before getting her inheritance. Daisy is shocked when Alex swoops her up to get on a plane that takes her to Florida where they join the traveling circus he works for. There is a lot of big adjustments Daisy has to make to fit in with this new lifestyle and with her new husband, and Alex is also consistently shocked that Daisy isn't the spoiled and dumb socialite that he had pegged her to be. There are a lot of ups and downs, some funny moments, some sexy times, and some sad moments...and they get a HEA ending. POV: This alternated between focusing mainly on Daisy and Alex in 3rd person narrative. It did have some parts that focused on side characters as well. Overall Pace of Story: Good. I ate this up and read it super fast! I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well. Instalove: No, they take a while to develop stronger feelings. H rating: 4 stars. Alex. I liked him. I felt bad for his past, but I did want him to communicate a little better with Daisy at times. h rating: 5 stars. Daisy. I loved her! She was a mess and a lot lost when we first meet her. Her upbringing and family relationships were sad, but I appreciated the woman she became despite it all. Sadness level: Low/moderate. I teared up a few times, but I never needed any tissues. Push/Pull: Yes (view spoiler)[ They both push away and also pursue the relationship at times. (hide spoiler)] Heat level: Alright. They have some alright tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story. I do think this could've been a little bit more steamy tbh. Their sexual chemistry just fell a little flat for me for some reason. Descriptive sex: Yes OW/OM drama: Yes (view spoiler)[ An ex f-buddy of the H is the owner of the circus, and she causes a good bit of drama for the couple (because she had fallen in live with him and he didn't return the feelings). (hide spoiler)] Sex scene with OW or OM: No (view spoiler)[There is a descriptive scene of two side characters (hide spoiler)] Cheating: No Separation: Yes (view spoiler)[They are separated for ~a month (?), but there was no mention or suggestion of other partners during this time. (hide spoiler)] Possible Triggers: Yes (view spoiler)[Loss of a parent (off page), arranged marriage (on page), child abuse (off page), the h was a virgin, and unexpected pregnancy (on page). (hide spoiler)] Closure: This is my biggest issue with the book. It gives us a small (days?) jump ahead epilogue with some of their HEA, but I definitely wanted more! How about them with their children later in life?! That would've been awesome. I am still calling this a HEA though. Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers (view spoiler)[ - Does Not have cheating - Does Not have a descriptive sex scene with OW/OM - Does have both the h and H pushing away - Does have a separation between the h and H - Does Not have abuse - Does have a HEA ending (hide spoiler)]

5 STARS [image error] Seriously.. I’m speechless.. LOVE LOVE LOVE this book!!!! It’s official! I am hopelessly in love with Susan Elizabeth Phillips! What a wonderful and endearing story this was. I was glued to the pages from start to finish with a stupid silly grin on my face the whole time. The characters were absolutely fantastic. Th 5 STARS [image error] Seriously.. In fact, I can’t help smiling now as I’m writing this review. Just thinking back over the story, makes me want to pick the book up and start in all over again. The characters were absolutely fantastic. The dialogue was gritty and romantic with oodles of sexual tension. The supporting characters were just as well developed, even the animals in the circus had me laughing at times and on the edge of my seat at others. The story was so creative and well laid out. I loved everything about it. [image error] Theodosia Devreaux (Daisy) is a 26 year old girl with a huge dilemma. She has gotten herself into so much debt that she’s facing jail time. Her wealthy father has offered to help, but has some very unusual demands. She must marry a man her father has chosen for her, and not only does she have to live with him and do as he says, she must stay married for 6 months in order to collect her trust fund. [image error] The bridegroom, Alexander Markov… seems just as unhappy about the arrangement as she does. He may be tall, dark and handsome beyond her wildest dreams… but he’s also angry, brooding and completely incapable of love. And worst of all, he’s determined to show this spoiled little cream puff a long hard lesson in hard living. “I take thee... to be my awful wedded husband” [image error] So immediately following this poor excuse for a wedding, Daisy is dragged from her Manhattan lifestyle off to a broken down traveling circus where her new husband is determined to tame her to his ways. [image error] “I’m not going to fall in love with you, sweetheart. It’s just not going to happen. I care about you, but I don’t love you.” [image error] Daisy is completely out of her element. She is immediately treated like an outsider by all of the circus staff, she is terrified of animals, and has discovered that her scary new husband is an expert with bull whips… and he’s not above threatening her with retaliation if she defy’s him. [image error] Oh, and to top it all off… Daisy soon finds that her Alex has quite the reputation with women. And upon finding him married, they quickly turn their backs on her, making her the pariah of the circus. [image error] But, Daisy isn’t going to let this defeat her. She is determined to see this commitment through. And finding a few cracks in his angry facade, Daisy soon finds herself feeling empathy for Alex. Empathy that soon starts feeling something like love. “His fists clenched at his sides. 'Damn it! Where's your pride?' 'Pride? It's in my heart, of course.' 'You're letting me demean you!' She smiled. 'You can't do that. I can only demean myself.” [image error] Although, even as she offers him her heart, he completely shuts her out, until she is finally convinced that he will never love her. “I don't love you anymore", she whispered. "I don't love you at all." His throat closed. "It's all right, sweetheart. I love you enough for both of us.” I just cannot say enough about this book. I LOVED Daisy!!! She was sweet and loving, but also spunky and stubborn. She was put in a horrible situation and instead of giving up and falling to despair, she turned out to be a beacon of light that brought life back into the circus. Not only did she prove to herself that she was made of tougher stuff, she also inspired everyone around her, including the man that was determined to break her. [image error] “You shouldn’t dare a person who doesn’t have anything left to lose.” And Alex… well here is a guy you will not soon forget. A real top-rank ass with an ego that was bigger than the big-top tent. A real alpha maniac, who thought quite a lot of himself, while showing little regard for the fairer sex… especially empty-headed, spoiled brat socialites that took advantage of their family’s fortune. [image error] “I can’t resist you,” he said quietly. “You know that, don’t you? And I’m tired of pretending I can.” His expression grew more troubled. “But I don’t love you, Daisy, and you can’t begin to know how sorry I am about that because if I could chose anyone in this world to love, it’d be you.” [image error] But it didn’t take long for Daisy to start melting the ice surrounding Alex Markov’s heart. And while he felt himself damaged and incapable of love, Alex soon found he was finding it harder and harder to stay away from girl he thought was beyond help. She wasn’t holding anything back. Not one thing. She was offering herself without reservations: heart, body, and soul. How could anyone be so self-destructive? He pulled himself back together. If she wasn’t going to guard herself, he’d do the job for her. [image error] “I love you, Daisy. I love you so much I hurt.” This is such a delightful story. And the circus setting made it that much more endearing. The animals themselves played their parts to perfection, and in doing so, helped Daisy find her way in life. These new relationships were so touching, it will make your hear ache with joy. [image error] While they kissed, Tater dusted both of them with hay, just as if he thought the stuff was rice. I highly recommend this book!!! And a big thank you to Ingela and Mo who recommended it to me. ❤︎

It is hands down my favorite contemporary romance, not only from this author, but period. Yes. It was THAT good. Actually, no. It wasn't just good. It was brilliant. It was enchanting, sigh inducing, heartwarming, funny, swoony, PERFECTION. His fists clenched at his sides. “Damn it! Where's your pride?” “Pride? It's in my heart, of course.” “You're letting me demean you!” She smiled. “You can't do that. I can only demean myself.” If you love the arranged marriage trope, you will LOVE the story of Alex and Daisy. Put against a rock and a hard place, Daisy agrees to her father's choice of husband, even if she's only meets him the day of her wedding. Alex has his own reasons for agreeing to the arrangement, but he's keeping a tight lid on those. Suddenly sweet and somewhat sheltered Daisy that's used to globe trotting and dining with celebrities with her flighty and selfish past model mother, finds herself thrust into circus life, with a husband that's determined to prove to her that she can't hack it. Put to the test on just how much of the ordinary life she can endure, Daisy soon finds that there's something almost magical about the circus, and more than meets the eye to her husband. Daisy was the sweetest, most endearing heroine I've ever read. I loved all of her vulnerabilities and insecurities. I loved her soft sort of strength and the way she finds herself in a place she last expected. Alex was an outright bastard to her. Yet there was something so intriguing about him. I couldn't get enough of him. I wanted to hate him for his treatment of Daisy, but then reading about her method of dealing with him gave me too many laughs to care. Good news!" she chirped. "The doctor says this time it's triplets!” I loved the way that Daisy's sweet nature eventually began to win over everyone around her. I loved the incredible cast of quirky and unique secondary characters. My absolute favorite part had to be the animals, though. This book was simply EVERYTHING. It was phenomenal, unputdownable, page-turner, smile-inducer. It had THE MOST DELICIOUS GROVEL I have ever read. It had the swooniest romance. It had the quirkiest humor. IT WAS EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING! An absolute must read! My favorite book of the year and hands down my favorite SEP book to date! Find me on:

This book was not my cuppa. I didn't like the hero, he was a real as*hole for me and the heroine was kind of a doormat, so I didn't like her much, either. Their marriage was based on something unbelievable for me. And there wasn't enough groveling at all... Little to none! My 2 points go to the scenes with Sinjun, the tiger and Tater, the elephant, as I fell in love with these two animals :) This book was not my cuppa. Admittedly when I started to read this I thought this was not going to work for me. Boy was I ever wrong!!! Even with the over-the-top unrealistic circumstances that surrounded the characters, this book STOLE MY HEART!! Daisy, oh my goodness, talk about wearing your heart on your sleeve, she did everything… everything out of love!! She was one of the sweetest, kindest, most determined heroines I've ever had the good fortune to come across! I adored her, and just thinking about her now just warms my heart. Thrown into circumstances she's totally unprepared for, Daisy makes the best of the situation. She finds herself married to the cold-hearted, yet devastatingly handsome Alexander Markov. He throws every obstacle he can at her, but she is determined, keeps her chin up and pushes through. I was fascinated by her, she was delightful! I did not like Alex at first, but as Daisy works her magic and he starts to come around, she falls for him and so did I. Alex was carrying around some heavy baggage and he built a fortress around himself and his heart, but Daisy is so damn irresistible that his walls begin to crumble ever so slowly. He puts up a great front, but the reader can feel how much he cares for this woman who shares his bed and his life. The deal for the marriage calls for 6 months, but how can he ever let her go?! Her father and step-mother, I don’t even want to talk about them, they’re not worth the effort…BLECH! Hear that crack?!?! It’s my heart breaking in half and it wasn’t the only thing cracking and well…you’ll just have to read it and see for yourself!! OMG…even now it all just takes my breath away, my heart pounds and I’m anxious all over again. It was a defining moment in the book and I can’t say any more than that! The ending took me totally off guard. I never expected it to play out the way it did. It was such a pleasant surprise, my jaw just dropped to the floor and it took a while for me to lift it up and put it back in place. I read the last 12% of this book over and over…I had a hard time putting this one away. So many amazing characters that took front and center, but the two that stole the show were Sinjun and Tater! Their special relationship with Daisy, well it was just that…SPECIAL! However unrealistic it was, it worked in a big way. So much fun, SEP outdid herself with this one. This book stirred every emotion in me…it was head-spinning! The dialogue was amazing; I was captivated by the story and charmed by all the characters, especially Daisy and Alex. The passion they shared felt real and they had amazing chemistry. SEP does intimate very well. The book was not lacking for heat, that’s for sure. Kiss An Angel is now a comfort read on my shelf; I can pull this out anytime and know that it will leave me feeling good, and that’s saying something!!! I can’t recommend this book enough!

She was manipulated so often i was pulling my hair out. Literally. It starts when our heroine Daisy is forced to marry this circus asshole Alex. The plot is very simple. Its something like that: Naive and Dickhead get married. Naive hopes that D will fall in love with her. Dickhead tells N that he isnt capable of love. Dickhead humiliates N all the time so of course she falls in love with him. Dickhead remindes N that he cant love her. Dickhead humiliates N again. Naive loves D even more. Its 80% of book. Dickhead is still being dickhead. Naive finally founds her backbone and runs! Dickhead goes after her and what the fuck does Naive? She fucking comes back to him! And they live their HEA. What is even worse? After all, you expect "hero" to grovel. He didnt, not even a little bit. I cant even express how angry i was after i finished this, but it was similar to this I just wanted to punch him so badly... It was one of those books where i wished so much for the heroine to leave, find someone normal, fall in love and live with this OM happily ever after. And for hero to watch it all and be miserable for the rest of his life. Only plus i would say was scenes with animals, thats all i enjoyed, but the rest i was mostly skipping, mainly all those circus perfomances, they were too long and boring. So no, i wont be re-reading this book. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for book where: - heroine is embarrassed and humiliated the whole book - heroine is pathetic doormat - hero who is so much asshole that you will need absolutely new shelv for him - hero who continued flirting with OW even when he was married - i dont care that it was forced marriage i still consider it as cheating, i bet if the heroine didnt always cut it off it would continue somewhere private - dumb OW drama - hero who doesnt grovel after being dickhead 80% of book - when hero rapes the heroine, some may argue with me but i still think it was rape, hero admitted it too SAFETY: (view spoiler)[ Heroine is virgin, saving herself for marriage. Hero had his share of woman. OW drama lama. Also had descriptive sexual detailes in flashbacks with this OW. No OM. They didnt used condoms. (hide spoiler)]

4.5 stars! My first SEP novel and it was oh soooo good!!!! Normally contemporary romance novels from the 90's aren't really my thing, but this was compared to The Unwanted Wife by Natasha Anders so I had to read it. Kiss An Angel is the story of Daisy who gets roped into an arranged marriage to a man who seems to despise her. Alex works for a traveling circus and seems to find a lot of pleasure in assigning Daisy to tasks which would humiliate her. As time goes by, sparks fly between the two and 4.5 stars! This book started out a bit rough for me, I almost threw in the towel and I pushed on. I'm so glad I did because after 20% or so I was unable to put down this book. Then 70% hit and it was angsty AF so of course I was vomiting happy rainbows out of my mouth. I'm such an angst whore, I swear. I really liked Daisy and Alex, I liked them even more together. Another highlight for me was the relationships developed with the circus animals because I am a giant softy for animals. I cannot wait to discover more by SEP! In love... In this wonderful story. Therefore, this is an exuberant, completely one-sided tribute review and must be read with an ounce of sanity. Because I never want to stop and will say again and again in different ways how much I love this book. Please be patient!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Welcome to the Circus! I just want to scream - What a great novel!! I'm so impressed, almost 20 years old (written 1996) but it outperforms most in the genre even though it is in a traditional romance style. Maybe nothing new under the sun but in this case it doesn't hurt. I don't think you get a story who is in anyway hyped, vulgar, to sugar sweet or overly fuss to keep us, the readers, on the rack - you just get a good well thought out story. Sure it's steamy with a very hot, handsome alpha hero (Alex, you are a favorite!). There is both happiness, tears, laughter but above all an absolutely incredible wonderful heroine in the lovely Daisy (an angel is really the right term). When it comes down to it, it's mostly novels with a heroine I really can love who will also be the most memorable in the long run. No doubt; highest rating! ‘She dug her nails into her palms and told herself she had no choice. "I, Theodosia..." She gulped for air. "...take thee Alexander..." She gulped again. "...to be my awful wedded husband...” Daisy Devreaux can either go to jail or marry Alex Markov, the man her father has chosen for her. Arranged marriages in a contemporary romance? Yes, poor Daisy have debts and her father has a condition to help her. She, his daughter, must be married to, and live as wife, with the stranger man her father picked out in six months. When the time has elapsed, they may go separate paths and Daisy will get access to a trust fund and can choose how she wants to live her life. What do you do as a 26 year old woman with debt and without a job? - folds up to fate... “Don't dare a person who has nothing else left to lose.” Just a few minutes after the wedding drags Daisy from her NY life to the airport. A few hours later, they're in Florida and she faces that her new married life to a stranger is going to be with a traveling second class circus. Her new husband is nasty, lasting, superior and menacing and is pointing to a mangy old-fashioned caravan; her new home. As if that were not bad enough, Daisy is terrified of animals... “Well alright then," His eyes glittered. "I get my kicks whipping woman I have sex with and you're next on my list. Now I'm going to take a shower.” ~ ~ “What are you gonna do, angel face? Stab me with your eyebrow pencil?” There is so much to tell. Here are a lot of lovely second characters and their stories. We have the charmer Brady, the bitter but so tough Sheba and the young insecure teenager Heather. It is whining whips, horse arts and one for me quite new and unknown circus world. It's humble, lives in mobile homes, muddy, constant travel, much gossip and bullshit, but also caring and warmth. ‘... the troublesome baby elepahant, the shy gorilla, the old, reagal tiger.’ Very important was also all the animals. Tater the baby elephant in love, Glenna a lonely female gorilla and of course the poor old "talking" tiger Sinjun. Animals in cramped cages and with rather dire living conditions which Daisy came to take care of and started to love. I really liked that part of the story and I'm barely even an animal lover. But above all it was the love. The love between two very different people, with different backgrounds and ways to show emotions. One gave us everything. Her heart was open to everybody, animals like humans. The other one had long since lost his. He could no longer love. First there was wrangling, viciousness, fuss and digs. Then came the attraction and heat. Then acceptens, friendship - but could it be love? Sometimes I was so mad at Alex. He was so unfair, stubborn and stuck in his old beliefs. I almost cried after getting this three so, by me and by Daisy, awaited and needed beautiful words. I Love You. ...just say them, please. My heart hoped, was torn apart, healed and became contented. It was an ordeal to get through. But a good one which was awarded. “You foolish man. Of course there's love. Don't you know? I love you.” As you already understood; I LOVED it. I loved Daisy and Alex, their grand lovestory, their friends and all the cute animals in the circus. Yes the whole thing! Beautifully told, entertaining, very funny and enjoyable to read and of course super romantic. There are good and there are better novels - GREAT novels. This book definitely belongs to the group for the better, the great ones. For me is it unforgettable one. A story I know I will read again.... and that doesn't happen every day. Big I LIKE - hauntingly good - a real romance

I won’t go on and on about the characters or the plot simply because there are a few FANTASTIC reviews written by Karen, Angela and Ingela that you must check out if you haven’t already. Their words are spot on and their pictures capture some of my favorite moments in the book too. But I will say….. The two main characters Daisy and Alex were pretty amazing. The moments between them were endless. There was humor, sweetness and sexiness. ❤ And one thing I always love about SEP books are the side story and side characters. In this one, SEP had me falling for a baby elephant named Tater and a Siberian Tiger named Sinjun. The plot was creative and filled with SEP originality. The candidness of the dialogue was perfect. It provided for laughter, romance and endless sexual tension. Which I must say I loved! As the story starts to peak I found myself completely invested in not only Daisy and Alex’s love story but the relationships of the others characters. It really was a wonderful story. While my favorite SEP books are her Chicago Star’s Series, I highly recommend this one too!

It's not long, about few months, since I've luckily discovered SEP's books and after having enjoyed, more or less, all the other eight I've read so far, I can safely say that with Kiss an Angel I've found my first and only big disappointment. I am aware this is a rather widely beloved classic of the genre and of her backlist, and I can even see why to a certain extent, but I guess I'll have to take my turn at "unpopular opinion time" in this case. There are copious great reviews already covering It's not long, about few months, since I've luckily discovered SEP's books and after having enjoyed, more or less, all the other eight I've read so far, I can safely say that with Kiss an Angel I've found my first and only big disappointment. I am aware this is a rather widely beloved classic of the genre and of her backlist, and I can even see why to a certain extent, but I guess I'll have to take my turn at "unpopular opinion time" in this case. There are copious great reviews already covering both ends of the scale, so I won't delve into the plot and details and just explain why this story really didn't work for me. Despite being a vintage release (1996), the narrative style was crisp and engaging as ever, the dialogues infused with humour and, like the lovely Heaven, Texas and Lady Be Good, written around the same years, the book didn't feel dated at all in that regard. My gripes stem from elsewhere, namely the over-the-top storyline and, even more so, the romance between the leads, Daisy Devreaux and Alex Markov. In fact, I couldn't stand Alex, right from the beginning to the very end. There, I said it. When encountering such exceptionally good writing, I usually tend to have more patience with overdone characterisations and circumstances, but this time the outlandish premise set in motion by Daisy's hateful father and the hero's retrograde attitude were just too much to pass. Alex belongs to an old-school bodice ripper, possibly taking place no later than the 18th Century (hey, some of those Victorian guys could be very forward-thinking compared to our hero here!), but in a contemporary context his arrogant behaviour toward a woman who has done him absolutely no wrong to boot, felt so irritating and off-putting as to ruin my whole reading experience. His troubled past is no excuse and till the very last page he acted as if he knew what was best for Daisy in a selfish and dramatic attempt to clean his conscience instead. As for Daisy, while spending entire portions of the book alternatively being overwhelmed by him or justifying his actions, she crossed the line between "accommodating" and "doormat" one time too many, and her naively cheerful disposition more often than not seemed like passivity covered by a thick layer of forced optimism, a type of heroine I'm totally incapable to relate to. At the end she sounded so drained and resigned, like anybody would if put through the emotional wringer by an uncaring partner, that letting the self-important windbag have his way and shut up and be done with it started to look like an option. Not my idea of romance at all. The itinerant circus setting was well-portrayed and original, but even the secondary characters were mostly exaggerated stereotypes, like Sheba, the "strong" woman of the situation, and the quasi-preternatural connection Daisy develops with some animals further detracted from my enjoyment, since I usually don't care for unexpected paranormal abilities popping up to show a character's specialness in what is initially presented as a realistic background, especially when contemporary. If I don't regret having read this book, for the always delicious writing, the fast moving plot and a little bit for having finally slaked my curiosity, I can't see myself picking it up ever again, nor would I recommend beginning one's acquaintance with SEP's oeuvre from here. At the risk of repeating myself always bringing him up as an absolute paragon, Heath, the hero from her irresistible Match Me If You Can, is worth ten Alex Markovs (and maybe some more).

UNSAFE READ ALERT UNSAFE READ ALERT Rape/dubious consent (view spoiler)[In My humble opinion and I don't expect everyone to see it the same way I do, the consent is dubious all through out the book. For starters because neither of them want to be married to each other. For me it's clear H and h want each other badly and it might seem that all sex was consensual, but there are several consent issues here, that go beyond the sex because this couple was forced to marriage and manipulated to have sex in order to (view spoiler)[ produce a heir and I can't blame Alexander for getting angry, I just wish he had gotten angry at his idiotic father in law, not a Daisy, (hide spoiler)] I didn't find it blatantly rapist, because the way it's written it makes me feel as though they want each other and agree to the sex, but I'd be careful with this one if dubious consent is your trigger. (hide spoiler)] CHEATING: (view spoiler)[Techically not, but here's the thing: After H and h have kissed and have sex, Alexander is still fliriting with other women. I prefer heroes who have eyes only for the heroine. Besides she was taking her wedding vows seriously and he knew it, so he should have been respectful. I didn't hate it that much because this flirting with OW was used to give Daisy very funny lines. (hide spoiler)] OW= Othe woman: (view spoiler)[Graphic sex scene with OW. It's not at present time, it was part of the heroe's flashback of the time when he was a teen. Now several decades later he still works with OW and he even teams up with her to punish Daisy for something she didn't do. Because he trusts this woman he has known for decades more than he trusts his wife he has been with for only a month (hide spoiler)] HEA (view spoiler)[ Yes, but it came withot enough groveling IMHO (hide spoiler)] In spite of this issues know I'll re-read in the future because: 1) Excellent writing and character development. All the characters are well-written. You may love them, you may hate them, but all of them are compelling and true to themselves. All of them, including the bullied teen, Heather move in a rather grey zone. They aren't totally innocent or totally evil. 2) DAISY MARKOV is still one of my favorite heroines ever! She's not a doormat, or at least I can't see her that way after so many re-reads. Why? Because this is my personal opinion: WOMEN WHO TAKE THEIR WEDDING VOWS SERIOUSLY AND TRY HARD TO SAVE THEIR MARRIAGES (Knowing well their own limits) AREN'T DOORMATS THEY ARE STRONG. But I can see why so many people in this modern world where couple divorce when their romantic/sexual expectations aren't met would see Daisy efforts as weak, specially after the "accidental" physical abuse. (More on that tomorrow, when I'm ready to write more about this subject) I'll only say: To each their own. 3) This is still as addictive as I remember. Once I started I couldn't put it down and I hated every moment I had to stop reading. 4) The animals! Sinjun and Tater! I love how Daisy found herself thanks to the animals and the danger and cuteness of her interactions with them is amazing. So what is this book about? The book opers rather strong, the heroine, Daisy, is getting married to a total stranger and she can't even remember his name when it's her turn to say her vows. Isn't that cool? The said stranger takes her to the rural side of the USA to the circus where he's determined to break his wife and make her see she's not cut for his life. Except that Daisy is taking her marriage vows seriously and won't go away without a fight. Is this abusive? Totally, but I admire Daisy strength. I'll write more on this later as my lunch hour is over. MORE TO COME! **** *** Original review Oh Alex! I didn't know what to expect from this book and I'm not dissapointed. I highly recommend this one to every one who loves contemporary romance.

Its a beautiful love story with a strong cast of characters, each playing a vital role to make this story a worthwhile read. Alex Markov was rescued by Daisy’s father Max when he was twelve years old from the constant physical abuse he was facing under his uncle Sergey. Max had bought Alex from his uncle and seen to his education. Alex had shaped into a cold, aloof man who has a strong sense of honor and pride which he holds onto with his life. Daisy is the direct opposite of Alex. An illegitimate child, the only mistake her diplomat father had made in his entire life, Daisy had lived her whole life trying to gain the approval of a father who has never really seen what a remarkable woman Daisy had turned into, regardless of the promiscuous lifestyle Daisy’s beautiful mother had subjected her to. Vulnerable, kind and easy going to a fault, Daisy’s father considers her to be a fluffy scatterbrained individual whom he arranges to be married to Alex for a period of six months. Broke without a dollar to her name, Daisy has no choice but to go ahead with the marriage or face prison for maxing out her credit cards and finding all the creditors after her, the result of shopping extravagantly to make up for the profound sense of loneliness she has been feeling since her mother died. Alex thinks no better of Daisy than her father and vows to give her a fair chance to work through the temporary arrangement which Alex has agreed to with Max. Alex introduces Daisy to the life of living and working in a circus, and for someone like Daisy who has a perpetual fear of animals this doesn’t prove to be an easy feat. With a husband who doesn’t want to have to do anything with her except grudgingly acknowledge the intense feelings of passion that Daisy is able to arouse in him, Daisy finds herself unprepared for what is about to hit her. Alex doesn’t trust his wife one bit and when she is framed as a thief, Alex serves her with the sentence of cleaning up the muck of the animal stalls at the circus. Daisy proves she has a backbone of steel when with determination she surpasses everyone’s expectations of her by sticking to her punishment regardless of the fact she is innocent of the crime. Regardless of the cold layer of indifference Alex tries to put up with, he soon finds himself intrigued with his new wife, whilst Daisy slowly teaches Alex how to care, love and share with his better half. Things get interesting when Daisy gets pregnant, something which Alex had made Daisy swear she would take all the necessary precautions against. In a moment of anger, Alex loses the woman he only realizes too late that he has fallen for, and the lengths Alex has to go through to win Daisy’s love back would touch any romantics heart. The author is known for her talent in weaving a romantic tale filled with laugh aloud moments together with moments of intense passion that makes this book one worth re-reading from time to time. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance. Am sure that you wouldn’t be disappointed!

After rereading this book I lowered my rating on this book to a 2.5 as I still love the Tigers and the emotional scenes but I totally forgot how badly the hero treated and humiliated and raped the heroine. For some reason I had a black out on this until I reread it last month. It was not a comfortable read and it was not safe. Many triggers and no groveling made me mad. Yeah? GO READ THIS BOOK NOW! :D I loved how different this book was to the normal cliche books I seem to keep picking up.this book evoked emotion, laughter, joy, sadness and much more.I was taken on a journey and I got lost in the pages, I lived and wanted to stay in this book forever. The magical setting of a circus was brilliant and I am so glad I read this book! You meet Daisy and find out that she is getting married to someone she hasn't met..She doesn't want to get married but her father has had enough of her and forces her to get married to a man he picked out.Its basically an arrangement which her father has set up. She goes along with it as she doesn't have any money to do anything else and he believes she owes him. When you first meet Alex I was like eh? wait is he going to be the main character? wow I didn't know what to think or expect. ‘She dug her nails into her palms and told herself she had no choice. "I, Theodosia..." She gulped for air. "...take thee Alexander..." She gulped again. "...to be my awful wedded husband...” Daisy thinks she can get out of the arrangement which is for 6 months, if she leaves Alex before that time her father will have nothing to do with her and she wont have any money to do anything.Deciding that the only way out is to make a deal with her so called husband who treats her like a spoiled brat.He pays half the money her father paid him for marriage and they go their own ways and her father wouldn't know anything. That plan fails when he declines and they end up at the circus. "We can do this easy, or we can do it rough. Either way, I'm going to win. You decide how it'll be." Alex is such an arsehole at times but his comments made me laugh, his past made me want to squeeze him and never let go.He is hard on Daisy , pushing her way beyond her limits and trying to make her crack.the quicker she understands she can't handle being with him the easier it would be on Alex. For him the marriage isn't a real marriage just an arrangement, just a favour and nothing more. “Well alright then," His eyes glittered. "I get my kicks whipping woman I have sex with and you're next on my list. Now I'm going to take a shower.” Daisy has always seen marriage as a sacred bond and she is willing to make this work no matter how much Alex pushes her, she is strong, stubborn and won't give up that easily.I love their bickering and how amusing they were.Being with Alex changes Daisy for the better he pushes her makes her work hard, feel confident and stronger. Daisy is perfect for Alex, someone who feels he can't love due to his past. She is loving, caring and patient with him, she is the opposite of him and that works, he needs someone soft and caring rather than strong willed, arrogant and well you know..too much like him! I Love love loved Alex! I want more, I really didn't want it to end and I couldn't stop reading,I was up late at night totally captured by this book. “I don't love you anymore", she whispered. "I don't love you at all." His throat closed. "It's all right, sweetheart. I love you enough for both of us.” Oh and how could I forget the amazing animals who have their own place in my heart! I loved all the animals (I just realised I missed out the gorilla damn it!) they represented many of the characters in a way, they were caged whether it was by their pride, their greed or their loved ones. Lots of the characters like the animals were lonely all they needed was one person to look at them differently, to care about then, to see them and love them. This was my first SEP book and it definitely wont be my last! Check out my blog for more reviews! Blog: http://zakirrahsbookblog.blogspot.co.uk/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ZakirrahsBoo... Lady Heather

I finished this book late last night because: a) I couldn't put it down, and b) I had to see if Alex would finally redeem himself after being such a selfish shit! ... needless to say that all is well in the land of HEA's, and I was finally able to sleep after a rather gut-wretching, nerve-wracking, nail-biting reading experience...*yay*.. just the type of book I needed to read! I don't think the author could have written a more despicable, cold, and hateful character. I don't think the author could have written a more despicable, cold, and hateful character. Alex Markov was so wrapped up in his head, and the abuse he endured as a child, that he neglected to realize the beauty (and treasure) he had right in front of him. Daisy's love had cracked, and healed his closed-off, icy heart, and it scared the hell out of him. .. and Daisy, oh sweet, loving, trusting Daisy. Everyone in your life has always underestimated your strength, courage, intelligence, gentleness, and kindness. You gave all of yourself to Alex, even though the situation you were in was only a 'circumstance', you were so patient with him.. and then when you gave him your soft spot, that precious part of your heart you've never shown anyone else in your life. Alex didn't even look at it, but did the unforgiveable, He trampled it as if it was worth nothing. When Alex finally realized that he loves you, and what he's done to you Daisy, it's too late. He's already destroyed you. You've shut down, and become numb in order to protect what little of 'yourself' you have left. At this point in the book I'm so angry with Alex for not 'clueing-the-fuck-in', that I have trouble wanting to finishing the story. But, alas. Good things come to those who wait! In the end, Alex's 'final act' to prove how much he loves Daisy is wonderful, and beautiful. He does the unthinkable and sacrifices his pride ... even if it means getting on his knees to beg. ... and it is SO worth it to read this story!

EDIT: 27/05/14 2 STARS This is a difficult review to write because there wasn't anything necessarily wrong with this book, it just didn't wow me like other CR. The circus background was different and nice for a change, the story of finding love in the least likely of places and discovering your life was always meant for bigger things was sweet too. I liked Alex, and not just because he was an asshole. Let me clarify: I don't like assholes by default. The typical jerk-type assholes who are dicks just cause', don't attract me. But men who resort to being assholes in order to cover up their vulnerabilities or insecurities? LOVE THOSE. Because they're not truly born assholes, just conditioned to be that way...have I lost you? ;-)) well at least in fiction anyway. Anywho, Alex was the type of ass I loved. Daisy was sweet and I didn't find any fault with her aside from being too naive at times. So really, the problem for me was lack of passion. I've read SEP before and I'm always left feeling the same way: UNSATISFIED. Nothing specific, maybe not enough emotional angst, maybe not enough connection with the characters...regardless, this book as well as many others by this author are well received, so this is probably a case of, IT'S ME, NOT YOU. So i kinda liked it, but it was more just ok, it's a little forgettable for me right now. But who knows, maybe after some time I'll fondly look back on this book. Probably not.

3 🤔❤️🤔🌟s❣️ During the first half of the book I was having second thoughts for keep reading. It was lengthy, a few things were not explained and just hung in the air and there were major inconsistencies in the characters’ behaviour. It was neither fabulous nor terrible.

I see that it says the audible was released in 2007. That seems to be for "books on tape". It only came out on audible.com in May this year and even though I have already read it at least twice, I had to get the audio. Narrated by the wonderful Anna Fields, she is a sad loss to the audible world. Such a talented narrator. A magical tale! I adored Alex and Daisy. 4.5 stars Susan Elizabeth Phillips is rapidly becoming one of my go-to authors. More and more these days I’m finding that contemporary romances and erotica have characters or plots so similar they become one big blur. What a treat it is to read Ms. Phillips’ older books. Some of them, such as Kiss an Angel, were written nearly two decades ago. Not only do they stand the test of time, they give the new kids on the block a run for their money. Every story and each character is so distinctly different. I can honestly say I’ve never read a book that combined an arranged marriage with life under the big top until now. “I, Theodosia… take thee Alexander… to be my awful wedded husband.” I knew from the start that I would love this unique gem. Daisy is the daughter of a former ambassador to the Soviet Union and a glamorous British fashion model. Her parents never married. She was raised by her mother in an unorthodox manner but has always lived a life of privilege. She is refined but lighthearted, honest, giving, entertaining, and pure. She has a romanticized view of marriage. Daisy has always fallen short of her father’s expectations. After her mother’s death, Daisy gets herself into a financial mess and is facing time in jail. Her father is ready to wipe his hands of her but agrees to bail her out under certain conditions. She must marry a man of his choosing. If she stays married for six months she will receive a trust fund; if not, she will go to jail. She meets her new husband three days later. Daisy knows nothing about Alex Markov other than he is of Russian descent. He is tall, dark and devastatingly handsome but he is brooding, humorless, intimidating, mysterious, and cold. He believes he has lost his capacity to love. Immediately after the wedding Alex whisks Daisy off to their new home – a run down traveling circus that he manages. I’m not going to lie. The first part of the story is a bit of a downer as Daisy struggles to adjust to her new circumstances and she becomes a social outcast. It’s like when you can’t protect your child or best friend from the bullies at school. I pretty much hated all the characters. I’m looking at you, Sheba. Kudos to Susan Elizabeth Phillips though for evoking such strong feelings in me. Then Daisy sweeps in with her ray of sunshine and you just know it’s only going to be a matter of time before her light changes everyone for good. I loved learning about circus life. I felt like I was right in the center ring witnessing the performances and walking the fairgrounds. The smells and sights are practically tangible. Ms. Phillips amazed me with how she takes the circus animals and transforms them into such key characters. I adored Sinjun, the Siberian tiger, and baby elephant Tater stole my heart. Kiss an Angel is a great example of the type of love story I find most gratifying: the slow burn. As the Alex and Daisy get to know each other their attraction builds gradually, and the declarations of love are slow to come. “I can’t resist you,” he said quietly. “You know that, don’t you? And I’m tired of pretending I can. But I don’t love you, Daisy, and you can’t begin to know how sorry I am about that because if I could choose anyone in this world to love, it’d be you.” Their relationship is realistic and when they finally get together the payoff is great. The connection between Daisy and Alex is more than electric. It’s hot without being trashy. It’s sensual and passionate. Susan Elizabeth Phillips tends to create strong heroines who are more than surface deep. His fists clenched at his sides. “Damn it! Where’s your pride?” “Pride? It’s in my heart, of course.” “You’re letting me demean you!” She smiled. “You can’t do that. I can only demean myself.” Daisy is a lovely contradiction between who she truly is and how she’s viewed. She’s intelligent but considered an airhead. She’s gorgeous but having grown up in her mother’s shadow she doesn’t appreciate the strength of her own beauty. She’s a woman of principle and yet her integrity is always in question. Despite being raised by a promiscuous parent Daisy believes sex is sacred. She’s delightful in every way. And, okay, I predicted the plot in places but that didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the journey along the way. If you’re looking for a whimsical and heartwarming story I highly recommend this one.
