I received this book to review for the ReadIt&Reap program in the ShutUp&Read group. Thanks to the mods and the author for providing this book for us to read. Blood Warrior is a phenomenal debut and start to the Alexa Morgan Saga. For once I honestly can't think of a single bad thing to say. We start out being introduced to our main character, Alexa. She is always training with her mother, who she lives with, in a place where she is unhappy. She trains so much, but doesn't know why. She is always training with her mother, who she lives with, in a place where she is unhappy. She trains so much, but doesn't know why. At first the book seemed like it was a teen drama about an abused girl, but the story quickly progresses to so much more. You soon learn what all the training was in preparation for. This book has got it all. Vampires, Weres, Warriors, and brilliant world building. For the paranormal romance lovers there is a steamy love triangle (maybe more?) that will keep you guessing. As far as characters we have a strong heroine that is a delight to follow around on her adventures. The secondary characters are all equally as good. As far as the writing goes, it is superb. There is some mystery, suspense, romance, action, and excitement all wrapped up in a world that is so fascinating and creative. As I said before this book has a little bit of everything, and has all the things paranormal and fantasy fans enjoy without becoming formulaic or predictable. I really cannot wait to continue this unique series. Recommend for all paranormal/fantasy fans, particularly fans of Vampire Academy and/or the House of Night series. 4/5 Stars

I’ll kill them all.” ~Alexa TOTAL BADASS! I love Alexa!!!!! When Alexa defends her sisters honor by knocking out the school bully she expects to go home and face the wrath of her mother. Instead she gets something different and unexpected from her mother... And that something will save her and her little sister Nelly's life the very next day. “What am I?” My voice came out in a whisper, so I was surprised when Olivia answered. After vampires attack her house she leaves her mother and flees in order to protect her little sister. Alexa, Nelly and Jackson, Alexa's best friend are now on the run from the vampires. Once safe Alexa starts to ask questions and discovers that she is no mere human girl. She is a WARRIOR. And the last of her race/kind. After receiving directions to The Hidden City Alexa, Nelly and Jackson discover people like themselves. Vampires, Werewolves and Warriors. Met at the gates by warriors seeking to kill any intruders Alexa explains their sudden appearance at The Hidden City. They're granted an audience with the queen and her council and soon after are given permission to stay and attend school. Alexa is told that in order for her to attend warrior school she must fight in the arena. This does not sit well with Alexa but she agrees to it any way and wins her place and the rank of the warrior she defeated. It does not take long for Alexa to realize that something is not right in The Hidden City. And her mothers written words echo in her mind 'Everyone has an ulterior motive.' When you start the book you realize Alexa is different and that things are more than they seem. You learn along with her that she may very well be The One who saves the people of The Hidden City. The problem is who exactly is in need of her help and why do they believe she is going to do it. 'But these two places, within the same walls, had similarities. They both seemed to believe that they were in need of rescue, despite their extreme differences. It was obvious that the villagers needed saving, but was it possible that both peoples were slaves in different ways?' ~Alexa's internal monologue It's clear that she is looked upon as a savior yet she struggles to understand why. Example- check out this conversation with Alexa and the librarian, Olivia “Did you find the answers you were looking for?” she asked. I released a heavy breath. “I can’t honestly say. I… I don’t know what I found.” “Yes, I believe you do.” I glanced around me and lowered my voice. “You don’t… you don’t think it’s me, do you? The girl mentioned in the journal? I mean, it can’t be, right?” “Do you think it is?” she asked. Thoughts Dear readers, I heard the book was good but it still caught me by surprise. I loved it, the author managed to suck me in on the very first page when I was introduced to Alexa. The story has great pacing with plenty of action. I thoroughly enjoyed the world building and the characters it brought with it. It has lots of witty banter and guys vying for Alexa's attention. The romance was very YA and did not play a big role. However you can see the love triangle brewing with two really HOT guys; Kayden and Jackson. Both are swoon worthy! A character fave for me was Nelly, I want to know more about her and her gifts. I really hope she plays a bigger role in the next book. In Blood Warrior Gordon introduces you to a unique paranormal world that will leave you wanting to know more. And I am happy that this is a series because I. NEED. MORE. My Ratings Characters- Lovable with the exemption of a few Writing style- Original with good world building Plot/Storyline- Distinctive with great plot twist Steam Factor- PG-13 Overall- I loved it!! And I recommend it to all YA Paranormal lovers!!! Now go forth and read. Then come tell us about it on Goodreads! For more reviews go to http://realitybites-letsgetlost.blogs...

Blood Warrior started out promising. Unfortunately, it went the way of most urban fantasy. Alexa is a super special gal who is surrounded by hotties who want more than friendship and women who are bitches. *sigh* What I enjoyed about this self-pub is that H.D.Gordon has created a unique world. In addition to the standard vamps and weres this book includes Warriors, Libras (who provide balance for hot-headed warriors) and half vamp/half demon Lamia's. In addition to the standard vamps and weres this book includes Warriors, Libras (who provide balance for hot-headed warriors) and half vamp/half demon Lamia's. There is an interesting political and social system in place, in this book we get a glimpse at a city where everything may not be quite as nice as it at first seems, as well as a village of outcasts who apparently serve as blood donors for the vamps. This being a self-pub, I was able to look past spelling and grammatical errors. What I couldn't look past was the bad writing. His grin widened. "Because there is a party tonight over on the south side of the city." Tommy took my hand and kissed it. "Would you like to go?" Jackson tossed his arm over my shoulder, earning a smirk from Tommy. "What kind of party?" he asked. "One for cool people, so obviously you're not invited," replied Tommy. We all laughed, because this was the kind of exchange we had grown used to between these two. I think they had begun to consider each other friends, and even though they would never admit it, they were kind of similar in personality So, you see rather than show the reader that Tommy and Jackson frequently engage in not so witty banter, we are simply told that this is what they do. Others may be more forgiving, but this is one of my biggest pet peeves. We are also presented with absent adults, teenagers given freedom to do as they desire, a blonde who is a bitch for seemingly no reason (to complete her slut shaming she wears tight, revealing clothes and is fairly unattractive underneath her gobs of makeup) and of course Alexa is super special and gifted. (Even though she doesn’t know it) What is worse, so much worse than all of the above is Alexa's emotional depth, or rather, lack thereof. Blood Warrior begins with Alexa being a normal loner teenage girl living with her eccentric mother and can-do-no-wrong little sister. Fairly quickly into this story Alexa learns that she is not human, nor is her sister, mother or best friend. People die, Alexa must leave the life she has always known and discovers an entirely new society. She has no thoughts, no emotional reaction or inner monologue to any of this other than to at one point muse to herself, "What have I gotten myself into." The first real angsty, emotional statement we get from Alexa is when she is mulling over her feelings for one of the multiple sexy dudes vying for her attention. Well, let me back up... Alexa instinctively saved the Queen of magical people from a bomb, sexy dude insists that Alexa is actually the one in danger and (despite her protests that she needs to find her little sister) whisks her away to his cabin in the woods. Reading this, my thoughts were: Why the bomb? Was the Queen the target or Alexa? Is this city and society normally so violent? Is Alexa's little sis okay? What happens next? But Alexa is not nearly so inquisitive. She merely swoons over the sexiness of sexy dude and wonders why she has such strong feelings (um, she just met him mere days ago) and whether he will kiss her. In the end, Alexa's bizarre emotional reactions are what killed this story for me. Cool world ~ plus. Bad writing, standard UF elements ~ negative. But a main character who experiences life changing events and is seemingly unaffected by them? No way. People who enjoy action and adventure may like this story. But anyone looking for character development, growth or a thought-provoking novel should skip this one.

Some stories you just want to take away from their creators and give to an actual writer. H.D. Gordon isn't the worst I've read, but this book was just sloppy, sloppy, sloppy. It's like a first draft that never found an editor. Even simple things like "You're" written as "your", or "kempt" when "kept" is obviously meant are consistently wrong. In fact, please tell me that an editor wasn't consulted on this book, because I hate to think that someone professional did that poor of a job on it. Beyo Some stories you just want to take away from their creators and give to an actual writer. Beyond stupid grammatical mistakes, however, are relatively major consistency errors. Like mentioning that her sunsword... sorry, gladius hilt... had sprouted a blade before (and hence, the heroine wasn't surprised) when such an event was never seen by readers. I know, I went back and checked because it was so incongruous. Speaking of which, someone please let Gordon know what a gladius actually is. A 2-foot blade isn't going to be lopping peoples' heads off at anything more than hugging distance (and with a good deal of brute strength as well). It'd almost be easier to lop heads off with a baseball bat. And where did that blade come from, anyway? There's no way it was buried in the hilt—where would the mass go? And don't get me started about the stated ages. A girl that is "nearly 18" isn't going to be a junior in high school (not if she is also, as in this case, supposed to be super-smart, at any rate) and a sophmore sister that sucks her thumb in a moment of stress is... incongruous. And if you're* going to make blood an issue while running for your** life, you might want to justify how it isn't an issue in a segregated school of "searchers" who, as far as we know, are just fine without it. It's almost like needing blood was brought up to heighten an already tense conversation rather than it being an actual consistent need. And beyond even major consistency errors is a tone where every emotion has been cranked to 11. Not just the heroine, but everyone in the novel had an emotional roller-coaster that would be the envy of amusement parks world-wide. Every emotion is felt deeply and immediately and with no middle ground and/or transition. There may be individuals like that, but they're generally under a doctor's supervision. It's a good thing all the non-mindlessly-evil characters almost instantly like/love/cotton-to the heroine (even the guy she beat up to take his place in "Warrior School"), because you wouldn't want two different emotions to manifest in a single scene. The fabric of space and time might not be able to cope. What makes this semi-tragic rather than just really sad is that there's an interesting story in this mess somewhere. I made it to page 120 when I wouldn't normally have made it a tenth of that far. A good editor could have made this a viable novel, but not without some serious revision on Gordon's part. * not your!!! ** not you're!!!

I was so happy when I got a review copy of this book and I couldn't wait to dive in and start reading. Alexa has always lived with her Mother and her sister. Her sister always gets special treatment while Alexa gets beat up by her mother, not in an abusive way, in a she-must-train-to-figh-or-else way. She has always hated her life and hated her mother but then when she is thrown into a new world of Vampires and Werewolves she finds out there is more to her and her sister than she thought. She must leave her mother to a crowd of evil Vampires in order to save her sister. But can she ever forgive herself and get on with her life when her mother may still be out there? I really loved this book. After getting into the paranormal part of the book I couldn't put it down. I seriously felt for Alexa throughout the book. She's only 17 but yet she had to become responsible for protecting her sister. She is such a great character and she's so strong and will do anything to protect the ones she loves and doesn't care whether it will put her life in dangerous. I loved seeing the love triangle evolving, I could see it happening before it actually did but then after reading more realised it's not quite a love triangle as much as a love square, if only we all have 3 super cute guys pining after us. Jack, oh I love Jack so much. He is the best friend who loved Alexa so much and I just adore him. He's such a sweetie and he will do anything to protect her and would do anything for her to reciprocate his love. As much as I love Jack and don't want him to be hurt I fell head over heels in love with Kayden, he is the perfect match to Alexa, they are like two halves to a whole and I just love him. All the way through the book I was like please, just get together already and I felt for Kayden so much at the end. I understand why Alexa acted the way she did but I just wanted them to be together so bad. I cannot wait to see what happens next. There was so many twists and turns and I was shocked by the way it ended. This book definitely has a Vampire Academy feel to it and any fans of VA or Half-Blood are sure to love this book. I can't wait to see what happens with the storyline and how the relationships with the characters grow. A great start to what is looking up to be a great series. What Team are you on?

Maybe some foreshadowing? To sum up: The book had a Kate Daniels feel to it- which happens to be one of my most favorite series of all time- and if there had been some more world building, I would have rated it higher. As it is, I'll definitely be reading the sequel.

I just finished this book & first off, I have to say that I loved it! I absolutely can't wait for Half Black Soul! This is my first ever book review, so bear with me... I enjoyed Alexa a lot because she's a strong female character. At times I felt sorry for her, rooted for her & even cringed on her behalf! I must say I was quite conflicted by the love triangle - I like both Jackson & Kayden but I must say my romantic soul has always had a soft spot for that "instant connection..." type of love! I shall not tell a lie… I choose Blood Warrior as my R2R read simply because it was a part of a series. I know, it’s not a valid reason; but what else can I say. Again, I beg of you, what must I say… for the past year I have been obsessed and can’t get my fill. Well, there was also the cover. When you think vamps and were’s; the first thing to pop in your head is a sex god of a male, right? Don’t feel bad… My mind slip there with a sigh as well. Then I got a look at the cover. It blew my mind… not a male but a strong female who’s arms were covered in lovely ink. It took my mind straight to Jennifer Lynn Barnes Raised by Wolves; not that I am comparing the two books only the strong female leads. Enough about the cover… Dare I venture to the pages below and tell of the story beneath. When I first pulled it up on my kindle… I will not lie after reading the first few pages I backed out of it. It just didn’t fit the cover or the grapevine. I thought I had the wrong book. I began reading about a poor abused child, I knew I couldn’t stomach it. So, I backed out of it and went on to read another book. Each time I picked up my kindle there it was, calling out for me to read. After two weeks I talked myself into it. Loaded with two boxes of Kleenex and the kids off to school I settled down to read. Starting back at the beginning I braced myself for what was to come and soon found myself dazed and confused yet captivated in the same breath. Once I worked my way through the necessary secrecy/confusion for the development of the story, I was hooked, line and sinker. HD Gordon did an excellent job with this debut book and even better by bringing in all my favorites under one roof. She managed to capture not only the paranormal twists I enjoy reading about but she did it a way that brought me back to my first love LJ Smith’s Night World Series. Unlike Smith (who had not originally planned such a weaving tale), Gordon laid the foundation to a series that will be just as phenomenal as Smith’s. Gordon’s writing style plot and the characters flourished with ease. Blood Warrior to say simply left me begging for more. Fans of other paranormal (soon to be classics I am sure) reads such as Vampire Academy, House of Night or the Night World Series; hold on to your seats because you will love the ride. I can’t wait till 2012 when the second installment is due out to see where Gordon’s creative imagination takes Alexa and her merry band of friend!

2011 is the year of the Warrior!!!!! My rating: 5 Shooting Stars!! I didn’t know what I expected from H.D. since this is her debut novel. But I have to say that I am truly glad I got my greedy little hands on this series in the beginning stages because it is going to be a force to be reckoned with! This book was out of this world! My Thoughts: From the very first sentence the author has you hooked and wanting to read more. In the first few pages we meet Alexa Montgomery, a seventeen year old 2011 is the year of the Warrior!!!!! My rating: 5 Shooting Stars!! But I have to say that I am truly glad I got my greedy little hands on this series in the beginning stages because it is going to be a force to be reckoned with! This book was out of this world! My Thoughts: From the very first sentence the author has you hooked and wanting to read more. In the first few pages we meet Alexa Montgomery, a seventeen year old who is trying to fit in and find some normalcy in between being forced to learn combat/sword fighting and strength training with her mother that leaves her with black eyes every now and then and the fact that her mother is adamant on her perfecting these skills to “prepare” for protecting herself and her 1 year younger sister Nelly from some unknown source (but the burning question is from who?). We are then introduced to Jackson Kane, Alexa’s best friend/love interest who’s had her back ever since they’ve met. The story then takes a turn for the worst when Alexa’s house is attacked by blood thirsty vampire's called the Lamia that seem to have one thing in mind…..Nelly. Alexa and her mother fight off these otherworldly creatures as best as they can but when they are outnumbered Alexa has to make the worst decision of her life which is to save Nelly and to leave her mother behind. In doing so Alexa, Nelly, and yes Jackson are introduced to a world and adventure that they’ve never known was possible or even existed. I really loved how you can tell that H.D. took her time with every character. The reader is almost instantly able to connect with Alexa’s and Nelly’s character and story. They are not your typically fantasy character with no flaws and a stale personality. The main character is feisty, smart, caring, and a little insecure at the same time flaws in all. We really get to see every characters likes, dislikes, faults and this makes them all unforgettable even if they were important or not. The character I loved the most besides Alexa was Jackson Kane our mouth-watering Werewolf. Jackson really helps bring out the different sides in Alexa even if she is always giving him a hard time! He was so loveable that I instantly fell in love with his character and I was rooting that he would get the girl in the end (not that I want to admit it because I want him all to myself!). H.D. creates the ultimate supernatural world that include Vampires, Seekers, Werewolf’s , and Warriors that all live together in one “super” community of different races that don’t clash or out shine the other. This book is beautifully written with a fresh take on the paranormal and its awesomeness! Blood Warrior takes the title of an ultimate page turning adventure and I sure as hell didn’t want it to end! I hope to continue this ride with H.D. and Alexa and I’m planning on devouring the rest of the series. Cheers for Blood Warrior!!!! Recommend to: Beware: This series is addicting. This series is like Vampire Academy on Steroids!!!! I would not recommend this to people who are not obsessed with hot Werewolf’s, Warrior Princesses, Vampires that actually bite, and beings who can see into your soul.LoL [email protected]

To say this book is nothing short of perfection maybe an understatement. I’ll show you why. (view spoiler)[ The only plot hole I could find was that Alexia hadn’t been eating for a few days. You won’t be disappointed at getting this book. It certainly warrants a higher price than the .99 cents for the eBook it is currently going for. Snap it up before that changes. There was only one other small thing, but nothing that would affect my rating or recommendation on the book. (view spoiler)[ About 40% of the way through, I was slammed while reading because I was reminded of a very popular book. It isn’t Twilight. But I won’t say what book it was, because if you didn’t or don’t notice, that is a very good thing. I hated that I even recognized the resemblance because as I continued to read, I started to draw parallels between the two. Thankfully, at some later point, I found myself no longer thinking about the other book. My mind only concentrated on the book at hand. Like I said, the book doesn’t mirror the other, so it deserves the rating it gets from me and other reviewer. But I would be remise if I didn’t mention it. (hide spoiler)] Who do I recommend to? Everyone. There is some violence, but if nothing gory. So hurry and pick this book up. Again, I promise you will not be disappointed.

*This is one of those books i downloaded for my trip back home, and forgot to put on my "currently-reading" list, or any in general.* And it was good to keep me entertained for a few hours, but not that good really. Sure, we had a kick-ass girl, and some action, but that was about it. I just read it for the sake of not being bored. Kayden was not really swoon-worthy, at all. He didn't pike my interest. Jackson is a better option. In reality, the book was just kind of all over the place. It started fast Paced, and when they got to Two Rivers, it just slowed down painfully, (and i don't mean literally, because we had reached a station on the train in that exact moment). All of a sudden, poof, nothing. —Anyway, i didn't let any of that bother me, i downloaded the next book at another stop. Because the WiFi on the train was not free, and nobody deserves to pay for WiFi.

I really want to get that tattooed on my arm! My Thoughts/Review: This book is one that I just could not out down. I could not get enough and when I finished I wanted more because I just needed to know what happened. Jackson is there to protect Alexa and he is also keeping a secret that she will soon find out. Come along for the ride of a lifetime with Alexa, Nelly, Jackson, Kayden, Tommy and Gavin! Alexa will find things out that will change her and her sister’s future. She is forced to make a decision that is both heart breaking but necessary. What will Alexa choose? Read on to find out! Memorable Quotes: “Giving up already, Warrior?” I shook my head. “I don’t give up on anything that’s important… but I need you to lower the gate for me, I have some things I have to go take care of.” I hoped that sounded convincing. To my surprise, Gavin winked. “Will you be coming back?” “If I’m lucky.” “Then, good luck, Warrior. I look forward to your return.” Then, he lowered the gate. Before I could pull forward, he said, “Don’t forget what you saw here, Alexa.” At hearing my name, I smiled, though I’m sure there was more sadness in it than anything else. “I won’t forget what I left here.” Advice: This is a MUST MUST read!

I got a copy for review in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book, it has a nice story, a good lead character and that I-want-to-keep-reading feeling. The story is about Alexa, just a normal teenager, altough we immediately notice she is not really normal. There are some strange things that don't add up and we get the feeling there's something more. The beginning is a bit confusing, but in a good sense, I know something's up but not yet what exactly and that makes the events seem a bit confusing. Until the vampires attack. I think this is one of the best parts of the book, there is action and Alexa wants to protect Nelly, her sister, and she makes some difficult descisions. After that we get some insight in who and what some people are and we are introduced to some new people. The story flows really nicely and it kept me curious enough to keep reading. I has that feeling of wanting to continue the book. One of the few minpoints is that we still get so less knowlegde about the world, there are three types of vampires and there are werewolves. But what do these vampires do? do they need blood? how much? What do they learn and the werewolves, do they change in real wolves? what do they learn? We do get some answheres, but it is clear that only Alexa and her race are the main focus of this book. Which brings me to another minpoint (view spoiler)[ Alexa's race. She is a warrior, the only one. I just think this makes her way to special. Everyone treath her like she is their savior, but really she is just one teenage girl. I just think I would like the book better if she wasn't the last warrior (hide spoiler)] . Then the characters, well I immediately liked Alexa, she is strong, help others and will put even her live in line to protect those she loves. She also has a bit of a temper, which she has difficulties to control. Only thing I didn't like about Alexa is that she smokes, I think smoking is a disgusting habbit and it made it a bit more difficult to identify myself with Alexa. Two other characters I really liked where Akira and Soraja. Both are cute little girls who I immediately liked. Akira sadly has only a small part in this story. Then we have some other characters and a love triangle, or square. We have three boys who are in love with Alexa. I do not like love traingles. And in this book it is obvious who Alexa will end up with and I think it is a bit unconvincing due to that. And then we have ther fact that (view spoiler)[ she get's a relationship with Jackson, who we know almost nothing about and really all the evidence points to Kayden, he is the one Alexa should be with. (hide spoiler)] It is so obvious who Alexa should be with that I feel like the other two are more of a distraction. Also I think we don't get to know enough of them. I could't get a good idea who they where and two of them just irritated me. (view spoiler)[ Jackson only made those comments all the time to emphasize how beautifull Alexa is, but those comments just felt empty. I don't know why he couldn't just be a good nice friend who Alexa trust. And Tommy, well we really don't know him, we don't get to know him. But he still is Alexa's friend and then make some semi-fights with Jackson. (hide spoiler)] To conclude: a really nice story with some good characters. There where some minor parts I didn't like, but overall it was just a good enjoyable story. The ending leaves us with many questions left and I really want to know what happens next.

Wow! Blood Warrior is AMAZING! I have to say that I really wasn't expecting this book to grab me the way that it did and hold me hostage until the very last word was written on the very last page. Her mother has trained her for battle her entire life without telling her why. Although Alexia is exceptionally beautiful, she seems to naturally repel people. Then she and her mother and sister are attacked by a race of vampires called the Lamia and Alexa is forced to leave her mother for dead because it is the only way to protect her sister. Alexa's life takes a crazy turn and she finds herself in a community among other vampires and werewolves with her sister, Nelly, and her best friend (and werewolf) Jackson. Not only is she thrust into a whole other world that she never knew existed, she is the only one left of her kind which has made her quite popular. I am not saying anymore because I think I may reveal too much. I will say there is lots of love, which I love... I mean who doesn't love, love? :) Blood Warrior has it all: hot guys, adventure, love, heartache, mystery, suspense... Did I mention hot guys? Anyway, BUY THIS BOOK! I am in love with the series already and cannot wait until the next installment! Again, I feel like I have completely robbed an author (an awesome one at that) because she is selling her e-book for only .99 cents!!!

When I first opened the book it seemed it was about a lonely young woman who was living in a very abusive home. It talked about her mother hitting her and I had to remember what genre I was reading so of course I knew there was a reason. We are introduced to her sister Nelly, her mother and her one and only friend Jackson. In a fight for their life’s Alexa finds out more about herself and why all the practicing she has done with her mother is going to come in very handy. This story is full of suspense, mystery and of course has a few young men who are falling for Alexa; I would almost say it’s more than a love triangle as there are a few men introduced to the story. This book is a page turner and left me wanting more. I cannot wait for this saga to continue. As any new series we know we will have to wait for book two. I am hoping H.D. Gordon is writing as I type. I would recommend this book to all my friends who love reading PNR. I don’t give book 5 stars a lot, to be a book that rates 5 is a novel that one I can’t put down or stop thinking about. The writing was excellent and like I said I never put the book down. This novel deserved the 5 star rating.

I received this book as an R2R - as always thanks to those hard working folks that allow us to read these books (writers, AND PNR/UF). Every day is a test. Another lesson. Another battle. Alexa is put through battle training that leaves her bruised and angry. What is she preparing Alexa for? Then it happens...will Alexa and her sister survive? Pros: Love Alexa's reactions and interactions. She's hurt, and confused yet she still wants to help people. Her times with Jack and Kayden are precious for different reasons. While people are already choosing which guy they like more - I love them both for different reasons. Jack because he's always loved her, he just wants her happy. Kayden I feel is the more mature version of this despite his just meeting her. While Jack would be the safe choice, Kayden is the guy that's going to challenge her in the ways Alexa really needs to be challenged. Cons: Nothing to major to be honest. I am not happy with the fact that Alexa is a smoker as a minor (17 I think?), but I did see those around her telling her to quit, so I guess that minimizes my discomfort with it. I understand that the character needs a vice of sorts, and it is a hard thing to do for a minor age character. I really loved this book. I am dying to get my hands on the next installment which is the end of this month I believe (squeee!!!).

She created some great characters, especially Alexa who was tough with a smart mouth and a strong character. She was very enjoyable to read. I did feel there was some similarities to Vampire Academy but I could overlook it because I really liked this. The ending was really good and left me longing for more. I'm glad I don't have too long to wait for the second in the series which is being released on the 31st January. I would definitely have no hesitation in recommending this book to anyone who is a fan of the paranormal romance genre.

I have to say when I first started reading this book, I didn't think I was going to like it. There were too many unanswered questions, and Alexa didn't ask any of them in the start of this novel. For one thing, if a seventeen year old kept showing up to school with bruises and black eye's you better believe someone would have called Child and Family Services. Another thing was Alexa just accepted that her mother made her train every day and didn't bother to find out why or refuse to do it. Her mother came across as abusive, but then you find out what is really going on. The above is the only complaint I have about this book. I loved HD Gordon's writing style and the world she created. I may not have liked all of the things Alexa did, but she was true to her nature. I think when you can hear the voice of the character in your head instead of your own, it says quite a bit. I am looking forward to Half Black Soul the second installment of this series. Honestly, if I could have rated this ten stars I would have. Well done Heather Gordon! She has so much anger, and her protective instincts flare when her younger sister is grabbed by a popular jock that she nearly snaps and floors the guy. Somehow, that's the least of her worries. Expecting her Mother to come down on her and insist on more "practice", she is greeted instead by an enigmatic stroll in the forest. Suddenly, her Mother and her younger sister seem different, as if they are sharing a secret against her. Only more questions are raised when her Mother gives her a gift- a sword... Who and what is Alexa? Why does she always feel such anger? She finds out the answers in the worst possible of ways, and begins her journey into the unknown... What I Thought This book is a perfect example of what I love about YA. It's all the good things of a YA novel. Strong main female character that still has some vulnerability. Smoking hot best friend, Jackson, that obviously wants more, and also ends up being more than she expected. Kayden, equally dangerous bad boy but draws Alexa in despite her attempts to stop it. The love triangle created was still relatively innocent and believable. (view spoiler)[It has different creatures, I loved all the races and mixes therein. I especially love the seemingly utopia show it's darker underbelly- and the underlying social commentary that it creates. There is action, romance, cat fights, death, fighting matches... there are so many things to like about it. I most definitely will be getting book 2 when it comes out at the end of the month. Great book- highly recommended to anyone who enjoys UF and does not mind the milder YA romance. I actually gave it 4½♥'s vs. the 5 that the review shows. It was really good- but I'm persnickety about handing out 5 stars.

The turn of events was such a surprise and I had a few jaw dropping moments, though the chapters were still a bit too short, the writing got so much more better and I really praised the author for her creativity. I also loved her characters! Alexa, the main character in the story was another tough protagonist that I know I will admire. (Note: She has a hot temper and a thick wall) I am always particularly picky in liking girl protagonists and I tend to dislike hot headed girls, but Alexa was an exception. I couldn't picture her without her sassiness. Although I am slightly annoyed by the fact that she loved two guys, Kayden and Jackson, (don't get me wrong, love triangles are my thing) I was afraid that the story will turn too cliche from that point. I've read too many love triangles and was hoping that I would discover something new out of the usual. Another character I came to adore is Kayden, so I guess I can say that I am on Team Kayden. Kayden is a perfect addition to the story, he has incredible fighting skills, unreadable expression and my favourite thing about him : maturity. Kayden was like Dimitri (Vampire Academy), mysterious, sexy, protective, and mature, this can be proved through his actions! The entire story was fast paced and adrenaline junkie, and I think the author just created a new line of vampires! The fighting scenes were vivid it made me sweat, not to mention I had tears brimming in my eyes too. Blood Warrior was amazing! My experience with YA pretty much consisted of the PC Cast series and Twilight which both sucked so yes I am a little biased. Also when I read a book that is either UF or PNR I like the sex, yup I do, I also like the swearing too, that is something I can understand and relate to. That being said, this was an exceptionally good book and kudos to H D Gordon When the book starts Alexa is living with her mother and sister and has only one friend Jack, she knows nothing of the paranormal and her life is pretty crappy she trains constantly with her mother while her sister seems to receive special treatment. You pretty quickly find out why, Alexa's home is attacked by Vampires and she is forced to flee, protecting her sister while leaving her mother behind. Alexa, Nelly and Jack end up at a school in a hidden city for the paranormal community, where she meets the warrior Kayden. All it not what it seems within the school and figuring out who to trust is far from easy. Blood Warrior was extremely well written especially for a first novel. Alexa is a strong heroine and the love triangle between her Kayden and Jack was really well written without becoming some god awful teenage cliche. Her dedication to protecting others especially Nelly while controlling her own violent tendencies made her feel real. The writing was smooth while being action packed as questions came up they were answered fairly quickly until the end where Ms Gordon left me wishing the next installment was available right now. I will definitely grab book two as soon as it is published, so despite my dislike of YA this was an amazing book so please hurry with book 2 MS Gordon. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ 5/5 I couldn't put it down!

I’ve never seen a vampire/lycanthrope story told like this. H.D. Gordon put a new spin on vampire culture creating species within the race and a gated society hidden within our world. Complete with ancient secrets, prophecies, and oppressed people and of course…a chosen one. Who happens to be a very strong lead female, also known as, "kick ass heroine"! In the beginning I was a little scared of being instantly turned off. The story starts with a seemingly abused teen girl living in a dysfunctional household and most ignored outcast of her high school. Then before you know it, WAM…..BAM……things get turned so far upside down, I didn’t know how I could have ever been fooled. Alexa, her sister Nelly, and best friend Jackson flee this new world and that’s when the fun begins. We’re introduced to Kayden. There’s a love triangle. Seriously, a love triangle. Clarification- a real love triangle where both men are great guys; and I don’t know who she’ll end up with. My only complaint is I would have liked to see more romance and a little more fighting. However, there’s so much more awesomeness that I can explore that'll have you kicking in the library door and pillaging the mall, neighbors, family, and friends. *GASP* Just to get your hands on this, but that’s all I’m telling…..sorry. You'll have to just read the book. READ THIS BOOK NOW!

I was given the opportunity to review this through a group read here on goodreads. To start off the review I wanted to say that I love the cover of this book and it is originally what hooked me. The start of this book is a little strange. Alexa is living in normal society in what can definitely be considered a not so normal living arrangement. She lived with her mother who trains her to fight and keeps her in good shape but we don;t really understand this until much later in the story. Soon we discover why Alexa has been trained by her mother and what her future now holds. This book has everything -- good vampires, bad vampires, werewolves and Alexa. There is a nice love triangle (square) beginning to form. The verdict is still out on who is my favourite. They all have something. I can't wait to see where Alexa ends up in the next book. I felt the author had good world building and a strong plot line. I never felt lost and I felt I had a good grasp on everything that was happening. There weren't too many questions left unanswered. If there was only one thing I could change about this book it would be the way that Alexa treated the person who essentially the other half of her.

I usually don't really like first books of a series - but this book is amazing! If you have not read it - or added it to you TBR stack - ADD IT NOW! I would have finished this book sooner, but I was sick for 3 days during my reading time frame :( So really I finished this book in 2 days. It is a great read - actually really easy to read and easy to follow. There is great information all the way through so it is easy to keep up. I didn't really feel confused or lost at all! ------------------------ I usually don't really like first books of a series - but this book is amazing! She is pissed in general and wants what every teenager wants... then she learns she doesn't want it at all. This story has everything - adventure, mystery, and just a little romance. I don't want to say much because I will just spoil the book for you - so please take my advice - get a copy of this book and read it!! ---------------------------------- Enjoy!
